Don’t stress over an unexpected repair!
Get back on the road quickly and safely with BOSCH CFNA.

Hans Wittler and his wife Christel immigrated from Germany to the United States in 1958. Hans brought his knowledge of German automobiles and worked as a factory trained dealership technician, specializing in Porsche, Audi, and Volkswagen automobiles.

In 1975, Hans decided the dealership way of doing business was not up to his standards. He established Hans Wittler Automotive with his own ideals shaping a quality service experience. Christel and Hans worked together for 24 years to make their small business a success with help from their sons Roger and Andreas. With their father’s standards of hard work, dedication and integrity, Roger and Andreas took control of the business in 1999.

Roger and Andreas have built upon the foundation their father established. In the past six years, the business has evolved from working on early models and basic cars to maintaining high-tech modern automobiles with the latest technology.

Our

Philosophy of Care

We practice proactive and preventative care to identify problems before an urgent situation arises for our customers.

At Hans Wittler’s Automotive, high-quality work is our number one priority. This standard is met by practicing efficiency and communicative customer service and promoting a preventative mindset.

Efficiency

As a business, Hans Wittler’s Automotive knows doing a job right the first time is the most efficient. To achieve this efficiency, Roger and Andreas oversee the technicians, advising them with the expertise they have gained throughout the years.

When it comes to repairing your automobile, our technicians do not cut corners and take all necessary steps to ensure the job is done the first time correctly.

Customer Service

The Wittler family strives to inform customers about every step of a repair, offering a personalized service only a family-owned business can provide. The shop uses a computerized system to produce invoices that inform the customer of all services clearly and directly.

This system also maintains a database of customer information to create service and repair history records for each automobile, assist customers in determining warranty eligibility, and ensure effective communication with our clients.

Maintenance Program

At Hans Wittler’s Automotive, we are firm advocates of preventative maintenance. We believe this is the key to avoiding costly repairs and reducing the cost of car ownership. That’s why we established the Hans Wittler maintenance program to provide regular check-ups and other recommended services.

We don’t stop here. We go beyond by guiding our customers on the importance of preventative maintenance. With this approach, you’ll always stay informed on consistently keeping your vehicle in shape.

Frequently Asked Questions

01 Do we charge for diagnostic testing?

Yes!

Testing to get to the root of the problem accurately and quickly is the most challenging part of a technician’s job. Without accurate testing to prove the actual problem, we would be guessing.

It is just like testing when you go to a doctor. You need positive or negative results to determine the course of action. When we reach the end of testing, we want to be 99.9% sure it is the correct result.

Since we do proper testing, we guarantee our diagnosis. If it is incorrect, we start all over again at ground zero.

Every minute we spend testing saves time and money in the long run.

Ensuring the purchase and installation of only necessary parts streamlines the repair process and avoids wasting time installing the wrong parts. This helps to prevent the need for an unexpected return visit, promoting faster resolution and getting you back on the road sooner.

Testing a vehicle and producing correct results takes years of technical training and expertise to be successful. Some problems are more complicated than others; some take more time, and some take less time. With sophisticated new engines, transmissions, and electrical systems, the more expertise you need and the more expertise you have, the faster things go.

We use the latest technology, the best training, and years of experience to quickly and efficiently get to the root of the problem. The more time we spend testing, the less expensive it is for the customer. We just can’t afford to guess at problems.

Have you had an experience with a difficult situation that involved multiple parts and multiple weeks without your car.? Everything we do when we test is to prevent just that. We only want you to buy the needed part, and we want you back in your car as quickly as possible.

We encourage our customers to let us know when we make mistakes. We want to regroup. If it’s determined we are at fault, we will move the world to make it right.

What happens if we determine we are not at fault?

We use empirical data to prove it wasn’t—photos, scan tool data, and explanations of why the car or customer may be at fault. If we can’t prove it, we will take responsibility and make it right.

The answer to that varies.

Based on each individual job: Yes.

Based on the total cost of ownership: No.

Since our goal is to reduce the cost of ownership, we have to base our profit on doing jobs only once, reducing the amount of major and expensive jobs, fewer parts sales, less billed hours.

Each job has to be profitable. We can’t count on engine rebuilds, transmission replacements, coil pack replacements, or head gasket replacements. What we do is straightforward parts replacement.

Here are real-life examples of how we can save you time and money:

  • We recommended a battery on the last visit for a customer; two months later, it died. This resulted in a tow because the owner and driver did not know how to jump the car. The money and time spent coordinating the problem-solving process could be better spent.

In addition, it also caused an emergency; luckily, we could get the job done that day.

However, this is only sometimes the case. This happened on a Friday. We may have needed to keep the car over the weekend. You might have needed to rent a car because we were out of loaners.

As you can see, our recommendations are to prevent this situation from happening in the first place.

  • Another example is spark plugs not being replaced in time and causing a premature failure of an ignition coil. So, it is now spark plugs and an ignition coil.

No big deal; it’s only an extra $80.00. Wouldn’t you like to spend that $80.00 somewhere else? Wouldn’t you want to bring the car in only once?

  • A coolant leak was not addressed in time. A significant leak develops, and the car is broken down. The minimum it will cost is a tow and your precious time.

This may also cost a major engine repair or engine replacement. It may cost you downtime with your car because it is an emergency. (“Sorry, we can look at it but cannot repair it until next week.”)

The hassle of a poorly maintained car just makes your life more complicated and more stressful than it needs to be.

When poor quality parts are installed, or good parts are installed improperly, time and money will be wasted.

For example, a shop installs a “cheap” part. That part fails. What happens? Back to the shop, it goes. Any reputable shop would take care of it under warranty. Other shops may not. Or they go out of business. Assuming the shop takes care of it, at minimum, they wasted your time.

Do high-quality parts fail? Yes, from time to time. The key is it is less likely. Also, high-quality parts last longer in general. The chance of having to replace it prematurely is very low. That is why we can guarantee our work for three years. There is a slim chance we are going to do it again. If it does fail before three years, we have your back.

The “cheap” part often gets replaced multiple times in the car’s life span. This can affect not only the current owner but the next owner. When we repair a vehicle, we aim to make the repair last ten years, not one.

Are there going to be the occasional emergency because of unpredictable things? Absolutely, but we all want to keep them to a minimum.

Cars can be money pits. That’s why we strive to lessen the cost as much as possible. If we are allowed to do our jobs, we guarantee your cost of ownership and wasted time will be at its lowest point possible.

Don’t all automotive repair shops have the same goal? Think about your past car experience, and you’ll know the answer.

We always look to save you money at every corner, not because we are cheap but because we are great at what we do. We are thoughtful and persistent in pursuing perfectly maintained and repaired cars.

A resounding yes!

Regarding German cars, it’s all about the emotions they evoke. They prioritize this over practicality and serve as a symbol of one’s status. German cars drive better than any other car on the road.

German car drivers prioritize the placement of every feature, from high-performance engines to smooth-shifting transmissions, excellent handling, comfort, and even low gas mileage.

People are willing to sacrifice just to own one of these fantastic machines. They will frequently visit the repair shop without their car for weeks. It’s all about the feeling when you drive a German car. No one else in the world has been able to reproduce this sensation.

Unfortunately, that feeling starts to disappear when the bills start coming in. It is very inconvenient and time-consuming to own a German car. At Hans Wittler’s Automotive, we do our best to keep this to a minimum by offering our Preventative Maintenance program. But you have to realize what kind of car we are dealing with.

While it’s true that German cars can be expensive to maintain, they offer a unique driving experience that can’t be replicated. If you prioritize driving perfection over simplicity and cost, a German car may be the right choice for you. However, if you’re looking for less maintenance and fewer issues, Asian or domestic equivalents may be a more suitable option.

If you think like us, it will be a match made in heaven. Doing cheap and fast fixes is not what we are about. We strive to make your life as simple as possible in owning a German car. This is a difficult task, but we work daily to make owning a German car more pleasant.

German cars are not built for practicality. If it breaks the bank every time you take it in your German car, this is not the car for you. Life should be simple.

It’s not that nobody should own a German car because they are expensive. We just believe it is our job to make it as pleasant as possible. We want to build a customer’s trust and that we are doing the right thing. Without trust, there can’t be a relationship.

People make mistakes. But we always make it right. We are here to make money. But ultimately, we are here to do the right thing. If you let us take the reins and trust us to do our job, you will always be cared for. Sometimes it’s the car‘s fault, sometimes it’s our fault, and we will let you know what the case may be whether we make money or not.

We don’t care if you’re rich or poor. The goal is to make German car ownership as painless as possible. And also to save you money in the long run.

No.

We provide a quote free of charge to all new customers. But the car needs to be seen first to give an accurate estimate. Providing an estimate without inspecting the vehicle is often inaccurate and can lead to frustration in the long run.

Looking at the car allows us to formulate the best plan of action.

If you don’t like the quote, there is no obligation. If we quote too much, we may lose the job. If we don’t quote enough, it’s hard to explain why it’s more expensive.

Many cars come through our shop, and we aim to get them in and out as efficiently as possible. If we don’t schedule, the whole process slows down. It is a juggling match, and it isn’t easy to prioritize what car to do next.

There are many factors to determine what gets done and when. Customers can get pushed to the back of the line if we do not stick to the schedule. Every customer, including emergency customers, should be treated the same way. Thus, we have to stick to the schedule.

We do allow schedules for emergencies. But when it turns into a big job, we need to block off time to do the job well. Rushing only causes mistakes and downtime.

Planning ahead is vital to keeping emergencies from happening in the first place. Scheduling an appointment for regular maintenance and handling problems ahead of time minimizes emergencies. To do our job well, we need the appropriate time to complete the job.

Every customer deserves to be a top priority. But without proper scheduling, chaos continues.

No.

In many cases, the least expensive part is presented to us. Quality is, in many cases, relative to price. Some inexpensive parts are ok, but many are not made to last. There is no way to ensure the part will get the job done in this case. If it doesn’t last, the customer must warranty the part. Double labor occurs, and the savings of the part just disappear.

Also, once we install the customer-supplied part, we are liable for its proper function. For example, if we install customer-supplied brakes and something terrible happens and, God forbid, someone dies, we are on the hook without the protection of our insurance. If we supply the parts, we have extensive insurance protection just in case. We don’t want to risk our business or people’s lives to save money.

Customers who do their own work might save money but take the liability upon themselves. We want to be someone other than the middleman in this equation. We have families to feed and a community to serve. Your safety and your pocketbook are our priorities.

Hans Wittler’s Automotive strives to produce the best quality product and can provide a 3-year/36,000-mile warranty.

We know people are just trying to save money because owning a vehicle, especially a German car, can be expensive. The majority of the time, this is a false economy. Doing a job more than once is always more costly. Someone getting hurt or broken down costs even more.

“What if I bring a top-quality manufacturer part? Why won’t you install it?” The answer is the same: No labor warranty, and we do not want to be responsible for possible defects. Manufacturer parts can also be defective.
